When you grow up loving golf you tend to develop a unique
perspective on things like the weather. To us, bad weather
means that the golf course is empty and when the course is
empty it's a great time to play. We realised a long time
ago that a rainy day doesn't have to be a harsh, unmanageable
thing. Instead we've come to think of a rainy day as an
opportunity to zip around the course in a flash because
there's hardly anyone in front of you. And, isn't it a
lot more fun to just go out and play than to sit around
waiting for the sun to shine? When it's raining, doesn't
it feel like the course belongs to you? It's fun to play.
It's a challenge. It's a joy.
After all, golf is an outdoor game. Learning to deal with
the elements is an integral part of learning to play and
playing in bad weather is just a part of really embracing
the game completely. It's about surrendering completely
to the passion that is GOLF.
There are more than 28 million golfers in North America.
Most of us don't get the opportunity to play as much as we
would like. That means that we've got to find a way to
squeeze golf in whenever and wherever we can. Our advice
is "Don't let a little weather get in the way of your good
time. Take charge and have Fun!"
People seem to think that playing in the rain is difficult,
when it really should be easier and can actually be a lot
of fun. Obviously it is no fun to play in a real downpour
and it's dangerous to play when there is thunder and lightening,
but a bit of rain adds a new dimension to the game. First,
the ball flies straighter and longer from a wet lie. It also
stops beautifully on a soft wet green. It makes you feel like
a pro when the ball hops and backs up on a soft wet green.
Although the ball will not roll very far, it is much easier
to keep in play on a wet golf course. The pros love to play
during or after a light rain, because they can usually eat
the courses up in those soft conditions. So if you want to
have a great time, the next time it rains get out and Play!
We started Dewgooders mainly because we weren't happy with
the raingear that was on the market. With the more affordable
suits the quality just wasn't there. The high end stuff was
way too expensive and a lot of the features were just plain
overkill. Manufacturers seem to cram these extreme, usually
unnecessary, product features into their designs just to drive
the prices up without really solving any problems. These designs
usually only satisfy the needs of a handful of professionals
who endorse the products. The truth is that most of us don't
wear raingear for the same reasons as the tour pros anyway.
They play all the time. For pro's rain is mainly just an
inconvenience. For the rest of us it can actually present an
opportunity. That's right, an opportunity. Certainly we wear
raingear to feel more comfortable, but people forget that great
raingear makes it possible to play more often in more varied
conditions.
So it's raining! Big Deal! Get Prepared, Get some good rain gear
and Get Out and PLAY!
At Dewgooders our goal is to make great gear that makes sense
for real people. Most golfers play the majority of their foul
weather golf in warm, wet conditions. When it's hot, long rain
pants, no matter how breathable just aren't comfortable. And
think about this. If your riding in a cart, sometimes all you
really need is something to keep your rear end dry when you sit
down.
A few years ago I met with some industry consultants and brought
up the idea that I wanted to make some really unique products
like our rain shorts because, apart from the pros, most golfers
play in conditions where rain shorts just make way more sense.
I was told "There is no point. The pros can't wear shorts on
tour so you will never be able to get any exposure for a product
like that no matter how good or how useful it is." To make a
long story short this advice didn't stop us and now our rain
shorts are being worn by golfers all over. Heck, the President
of the United States has a pair. They are fantastic and for most
people they just make more sense than a full conventional suit.
The Dewgooders ShortSleever is the same way. These garments are
simple. They're fun and they work.
Our quest for simplicity even finds its way into our business
model. We design it simply, promote it simply, and distribute
it simply straight to our customers through the Internet. As long
as we can find new ways to make simpler, better, more affordable
raingear, we'll keep on going. Great performance. No redundant
product features. No B.S. No big endorsement deals. No
complicated sales network. Just some great raingear, a web
site and our customers and we like it that way just fine.
